Keeping the Story Alive: Discovering Amistad Joins Book Launch for The Black Schooner
/Members of the Discovering Amistad team—including Executive Director Paula Mann-Agnee, Operations Manager Victoria Meskill, and members of our Board of Directors—recently joined community members at the New Haven Museum for an inspiring book talk featuring Amistad Scholar Dr. Marcus Rediker and artist/musician David Lester. The event celebrated the release of their powerful new graphic novel, The Black Schooner.
Following a thought-provoking panel and community discussion on the legacy of the Amistad, Victoria had the distinct honor of attending an intimate VIP dinner with Dr. Rediker and prominent local Amistad historians.
Being in a room surrounded by dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to preserve and share the Amistad story is always a deeply moving experience, and this gathering was no exception. Moments like these remind us of the strength of our collective mission and the vital importance of history in shaping our present and future.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Amistad Committee, Inc., the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition, and the New Haven Museum for organizing such a memorable evening and including Discovering Amistad in this celebration of history, art, and storytelling.
