Celebrating Youth Leadership: LEAP Mural Unveiled at the Q House
/Discovering Amistad and LEAP joined family, friends, and neighbors at the Dixwell Community House (Q House) for an inspiring Community Expo and Mural Unveiling.
The event marked the memorable culmination of this summer’s Arts Leadership Academy, where 55 local high school students spent weeks exploring the history and legacy of the Amistad, engaging in civic learning, and driving their own personal growth.
To commemorate and document their transformative journey, the students tapped into their creative expressions to design and paint a collaborative community mural. Centered around powerful themes of identity, reflection, and empowerment, the artwork was created under the expert guidance of New Haven’s own internationally renowned muralist, Kwadwo Adae.
The evening was filled with pride and celebration as the community gathered to support these bright young leaders, admire their stunning masterpiece, and honor their hard work and achievements.
