Exploring History Aboard the Amistad

On November 6, Norwich Free Academy students visited the Amistad at Mystic Seaport Museum. The group of twelfth graders, joined by several eleventh graders, took part in our collaborative program to delve into the 1839 Amistad Rebellion and discover how celestial navigation guided the captives toward freedom.

We’ve heard that both the students and their chaperones found the experience meaningful and memorable—they’re still talking about it!
