Discovering Amistad in partnership with LEAP will provide a 20-hour ARTS Leadership Academy serving 55 high school students at the Q House. 

Through the program, students will learn the history and legacy of the Amistad story while engaging in leadership development, civic engagement, and personal growth training.  Special focus will be given to the significance and impact that the New Haven community had in the victory of the Amistad Mende. 

New Haven Community leaders and professionals will facilitate engaging  workshops designed to inspire students to become impactful leaders within their schools and the New Haven community.  

 In order to commemorate and document this unique experience, students will be assisted to tap into their creative and artistic expressions as leaders. They will create a collaborative MURAL that encourages creativity, reflection, identity, and empowerment. 

The mural project will be guided by Kwadwo Adae New Haven’s own international muralist.

The outcomes will include a community expo featuring the unveiling of the mural project, where each students will showcase their learning and receive certificates of completion. Event will be open to family members and community.
